CMS and third party payors continuously ratchet up the pressure on rehabilitation teams, in both IRF and SNF level rehabilitation centers, to improve their outcomes, in fewer days, with high risk of non-reimbursement for certain complications, all with the expectation of perfect, and perfectly timely, documentation. In order to optimize efficiency and outcomes, inpatient and outpatient teams need to improve their teamwork skills and be able to provide excellent, efficient bedside therapies and care with continuously improving outcomes, complete documentation according to CMS regulations and be able to take satisfaction from their work. The need for highly skilled interdisciplinary team functionality has never been higher. Rehabilitation facility medical directors and rehabilitation team leaders need systematic, methodical, validated tools of team building. This workshop is intended to provide its audience with such tools to increase team skills. We will discuss and then hold interactive small group sessions to practice the techniques of Dale Strasser’s Team Effectiveness Model, Hilary Siebens’ Domains Model; and Mark Huang will summarize positive and negative effects of Informatics technology on rehabilitation team function and give suggestions on how to use the EHR to enhance the work of a rehabilitation team.
