Pain management after spinal cord injury (SCI) has been an important and difficult issue over the years, particularly as our population is aging and living longer. This session will review current pain taxonomies specific to SCI, as well as pathophysiological mechanisms for both nociceptive and neuropathic pain, implications with regard to autonomic dysfunction, and tiered management options. Pharmacotherapy, mechanical / interventional strategies and the use of marijuana to manage pain after SCI will be discussed.
